Aliya parcs is a model who makes her more happy living in the Philippines.
Jose Tinio III, nicknamed Chase by his Mom (a big fan of Chevy
Chase), proudly showed off his “Harry Potter” birthmark. Professing an eclectic
taste in music, his favorite super villain is the Kingpin because
according to him, “I love
to live like a king and enjoy the pleasures of life.” Patty Laurel,
19, loves traveling although she calls herself a homebody and likes
to stay close to her family. When asked which song best exemplifies
her life, she gamely sang “Run Away” by the Corrs. Former Powerboy
Jeff Rodriguez, 19, is an Australian who is Filipino-Chinese on his
mother’s side. Life before MTV was managing a fashion store and
studying marketing and advertising. He has been residing in Manila
for the past two years and can cook pasta and make scrambled eggs
with finesse. A singer,
commercial model, host and DJ, 23-year-old Aliya Parcs confessed to having a big appetite and enjoys soy sauce,
ketchup, chocolates, candy and junk food. She finished an
abridged course in Administration. At seventeen, Aliya was Holland's
representative to the 1997 Euro-Santa Cruzan celebration held that
year in London. She and 13 other European country representatives
were presented in a gala evening affair before gracing the next
day's grand procession in the main streets of London. But it is
Aliya's love for music and singing which gradually became her focus.
As a child she took six years of basic piano and jazz ballet
lessons. Once a week during college she would go to a neighboring
town by bike to take informal voice lessons from a professional
musician and jingles composer who was also the guitarist of a
well-known
Dutch lady singer. In the small recording studio at the
back of his house Aliya would often observe and tinker along.
Occasionally she also did on-cam assisting jobs for a Dutch variety
tv show. When her parents decided to put up business in the
Philippines, it took a mean amount of convincing for her to come
along. She finally agreed on a promise to allow her to go back to
Holland after two years if she still wanted to. In late 1998 they
finally came to settle in Bacolod City. Aliya decided to take
another course and enrolled in USLS (La Salle)-Bacolod taking up.
But the weather, dialect and methods of teaching were such that she
experienced culture shock. Her parents agreed that she should
discontinue schooling while she acclimatized. She did regret having
to give up playing for the women's varsity soccer team. She helped
her parents in the business while trying to learn the dialect. But
it didn't take long before she found the newly set up local band
AZUL. It gave her a chance to collaborate with the boys in making
original compositions, some of the members being homecoming
musicians like bass guitarist Carlos Balcells, formerly of THE DAWN,
percussionist Mari Teves, formerly of SABOR LATINO, keyboardist
Gerry Grey and drummer Jojo Bonnin. At around this time a local ABS-CBN
talent coordinator spotted her in a mall and offered her a
co-hosting job on its Saturday lunch time show which is being shown
in Western Visayas. She hosted for more than a year. Occasionally
she also did
independent out-of-town hostings. Aliya really wanted
to sing and Manila was the logical place to go. So with her mom as
city guide cum everything, they first found a good place for her to
stay and scouted around for a manager. She finally signed a
three-year contract with Ronnie and Ida Henares as her manager(s)
while taking workshops including that at TRUMPETS where she had her
first taste of professional theater. She then joined the ensemble in
Trumpet's first production of the musical "LITTLE MERMAID". Now,
more than three years later, with no manger and wanting to
experience being a freelance performer for a while, she is finding
her way in the maze of Manila's entertainment scene. Holland seems
far away for now and is becoming more of a vacation place to visit
relatives.
As a commercial model, Aliya has made about a dozen tv commercials
so far. Off-cam, very few people know that it's her voice behind
some of the other tv commercial jingles. She also sang regularly
with Jed Maddela, Gail Blanco and Prime Council band until very
recently, besides doing her solo acoustic performances. She had a
six-month stint at the Calesa Bar with the famed Rudy Francisco. Her
other activities include doing promotional assignments as TOKYO
FASHION'S image model, host and/or sing in corporate shows, doing
pictorials for magazine covers or spreads, tv guesting and others.
At home she tinkers with her Korg Pro-X keyboard and home computer
writing
original compositions.

Jose Mari Chan's album "A Heart's Journey" includes a duet with
Aliya entitled "Here and Now" for which a music video has also been
made. Readers of FHM Philippines voted for Aliya for the second time
as one of this year's 100 sexiest women, while MEGA Magazine chose
her as one of the 10 most beautiful women of 2003.
